What is a Hexapeptide?
Hexapeptides are a type of Peptide derived from the Zot sequence. A Hexapeptide is a small molecule that has the ability to penetrate the epidermis. With the ability to act at this level, it’s commonly used as an ‘active’ in skincare.
They work by inhibiting the SNAP receptor which is partly responsible for muscle movements. This partially reduces the ability for the muscles to contract as heavily, and helps to prevent the formation of wrinkles in facial expression zones.
Why you need to add Hexapeptide to your skincare regime.
Acetyl Hexapeptide 8, which is also known as Argireline is a peptide found in skincare. Its primary function is to prevent expression lines, or wrinkles, from forming in the areas where we have the most facial muscle movement.
The efficacy of Acetyl Hexapeptide 8 varies considerably, some factors include,
- How it’s stabalised
- Other supporting ingredients in the formulation
- Using for prevention of fine lines vs reversal of fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin type
- Concentration of Acetyl Hexapeptide 8 in the product

You can add Acetyl Hexapeptide 8 aka Argireline to your routine at any age. If you add this in your late 20s – early ’30s this can be a fantastic preventative. Whereas, if the wrinkles or fine lines are already clearly formed, or you have prominent lines due to natural ageing, then it will work to reduce the visibility.
